What I'm Bringing to The IFB Conference

This is the first year that I am attending the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference and while I am insanely excited, I am also equally nervous.  The biggest question that keeps flashing in my mind, aside from what do I wear, is what do I need to bring.  I am one of those kids who likes to be over prepared rather than underprepared.  Yes, I would rather look like a dork lugging a bunch a stuff I might not use, than be the person wandering around asking to borrow a pen.  Fortunately I found a couple articles that were posted on the IFB website on the topics of what to expect and what to bring.  My nerves calmed considerably after reading both pieces, and having a clearer vision of the day and I was able to formulate a plan.  I am still not entirely certain as to what I am going to wear, but I have put together my kit of what I need to bring.

What's In My Kit:
Purse (for essentials): Michael Michael Kors
Tote Bag (for the extras): Reisenthel Foldable bag
Business Cards: Lots and lots of business cards
Camera: Canon Powershot SD850 IS
iPhone: loaded with apps like; Twitter, facebook, Videolicious to name a few
Chargers: For camera and iPhone
Note book: Brandy new beautiful blank pages
Pens: In fun colors of course pink, purple and yes you can borrow one

That's the rundown of what I am bringing, hopefully I didn't forget anything (please email me if I did).  I thought of bringing my laptop and DSLR, but I didn't want to be lugging around too much, maybe next year.  Are any of you heading to the conference, if so please find me and say hi?  I plan on posting coverage of the IFB conference by Monday the 12th, so check back for; photos, rundown of the panelists and the keynote speaker and a little of my take away.  If you want to follow my day at the conference follow me on Twitter @jrosestyle or like J. Rose Style on Facebook.  Wish me luck, talk to you soon.

Best,

Jennifer

Emergency Toiletry Kit

Emergency Toiletry Kit

The effects of Hurricane Irene on New York were not as severe as predicted.  Given all the hype and drama played up on the news leading to the actual event, it is a blessing that all that I had to report at my house is downed branches, water in the basement and a power outage.  The one that has the most impact on my daily routine is definitely the power outage.  I can certainly survive without TV, the microwave, stove and even the lights, but the hardest part about losing electricity is not having water.  My house has a well for its’ water supply, which operates on electricity to pump the water through the pipes.  I have lost power numerous times before; you would think I would be prepared.  But no, inevitably I scramble around to gather up toiletries designed to be used without water that will at least help me feel better and make me somewhat presentable.  Here is my list of must have supplies when roughing it without water. I am sure the rugged outdoorsy types are laughing at me not being able to stand not having running water for a couple of days(I would not survive a weekend of camping).

Face Wipes:  I won’t wear makeup when I don’t have water to suds it off with, but I still need to wash my face to keep it from breaking out.  These cucumber wipes are incredibly refreshing and leave skin feeling clean without drying it out.

Natural Deodorant: There is something so luxe feeling about the Lavanilla natural deodorants, they almost make up for not have running water (I said almost).  All the scents are a mixture vanilla and other natural oils.  Personally I like the Lavender Vanilla mixture.

Hand Sanitizer: Bath & Body works collections of perfumed hand sanitizer gels are amazing.  There really is a scent for everyone. Having trouble choosing just one, pick up a couple of the 1 oz size bottles in a variety of fragrances.

Dry Shampoo: Dry shampoo has legions of devotees, and some who loathe the stuff.  If you are in a bind and need something to sop up oily roots this is the stuff for you.  If you don’t feel like splurging for the high end salon dry shampoo, try TreSemme, which has a dry foam shampoo for under $5.

Cute Hair Accessories: When all else fails accessorize.  Sometimes even when I wash my hair in the sink with bottled water (it's not as luxurious as it sounds) it still doesn’t feel clean.  That’s when I break out the hair scarves and headbands.

What are your must have beauty supplies when “roughing it”?

Fashion's Night Out 2011

The countdown is on for this year's Fashion's Night Out happening on September 8th.  With about 6 days left before the big night you might want to set aside some time this weekend to plan your shopping strategy.  A little history on the event, it was first staged in 2009 through the partnership of American Vogue, The Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC &Company, and the City of New York. FNO was designed as a remedy for the slump in consumer spending, to help the fashion industry bolster consumer confidence and "put the fun back in shopping".  Since when did fashion need an excuse to party?  It looks to be a banner year for FNO with events planned worldwide; from cosmopolitan cities to towns across the US, everyone wants a piece of the fashion action.  Even those who don't want to venture out into the fray can get in on the action online.  To plan your evening and get more information, including where you can buy FNO apparel visit the official FNO website.

I know I will be fashion O'Ding Westchester style, with a stop at the Westchester Mall in White Plains, New York. The mall has an fun packed evening planned from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm with free samples, demonstrations, raffles and discounts, oh my!  For more details on the Fashion's Night Out at the Westchester Mall visit their website.  There are also other cities and towns in Westchester County that have events going on that night in; Pelham, Rye Brook, Scarsdale, White Plains and Yonkers.  For a city near you check the FNO planning page, which allows you to search by state and city,  save events to a list and share or print your final schedule.

What are you doing for Fashion's Night Out?  Do you have definite plans or are you playing it by ear, or are you bah-humbugging the event entirely?  Let me know in the comments section.
