Denim Shirt Take 2

The title isn't exactly accurate since I have worn my denim Madewell shirt more than two times since buying it.  However this is the second outfit post (first one is here) I am doing featuring my new favorite piece. The weather was a little chilly at the start of the day so I chose to wear stockings instead of bare-legging it, that and I don't feel that the blogosphere is quite ready for post-winter pasty stems.  The skirt is the vintage Yves Saint Laurent number I wore to the IFB conference in February (here).  The bright belt was my way of adding a pop of color to some classic pieces.

What I am saying I don't know. I think this would be my diva face, if I was a diva.

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Madewell (current season)
Skirt: vintage
Stockings: Nordstrom (fall)
Belt: Ann Taylor (current season)
Shoes: Repetto
Necklace: LOFT

Color Brights

Another event, another outfit. I do love these excuses to get dressed up on the weekends. I had a different outfit planned than what I am wearing here in this post, something lighter a little more springy. It ended up being too chilly for that outfit so I went with layers in color blocked brights and of course classic black to tie the look together. The sunglasses were to hide the fact that I wasn't wearing eye makeup (had a scratch by my eye).  P.S. J. Rose Style will be hosting its first giveaway come back Friday March 16th to enter.

I'm so cool I can barely stand...myself.  Just a disclaimer I'm not that cool. Five seconds before the photo snapped I was tripping over those daffodils.

I look a little surprised, which is weird since I had the remote to take the picture.

A hint of arm party peeking out of my jacket.

I had the Flavor Flav size clock, but I recently downsized to this lovely vintage looking number.

Detail of the back of watch.
Wearing:

Jacket: Ann Taylor
Shirt: Eight-Sixty
Sweater: Gap
Pants: Ann Taylor
Watch: Fred Flare
Trouser Socks: Nordstrom
Shoes: Isaac Mizrahi

Layering Procedure For Winter

Every winter I am faced with the choice stay warm or stay stylish. I mean layers of bulky sweaters, scarves, and long johns don't add up to chic and sleek right? Well I have been working on layering the last couple of winter seasons and I think I finally have it figured out. Five lightweight layers (no bulk)that add up to a warm and toasty outfit.

Here's the layering procedure:

Layer 1 and cheerleader pose. Am I harboring pent up desires to be a member of the pep squad? Nah! Just happy to be wearing two tanks to add warmth especially when one is a HEATTECH tank from UNIQLO.

Steal this sweater from your dad, your brother, boyfriend or buy your own.  The only rules are to look for lightweight wool and to buy it slightly large.

The first two layers are a little utilitarian, let layer 3 put the pretty and feminine back into the outfit.

Buh-Bye neck see you in the spring!  I have been know to wear scarves around the house to keep cozy.  While scarves add bulk at least it's not at the mid-section or hip area of the outfit.

It's blazer time (and cue cheesy smile)! You can also don a lightweight jacket or leather cropped jacket, it's your choice really!  Just throw on a heavy winter coat when you are ready for the outdoors.

Items in Order of Appearence:
Tanks: Old Navy and UNIQLO
Pants: Mavi 'Alexa' Jeans
Boots: FRYE 'Carmen'
Cardigan: Ann Taylor
Kimono Jacket: Love on a Hanger
Scarf: Echo
Blazer: Ann Taylor

Note:  Many of the items are not current season, but I found many similar items and you can shop the look below.

Try it or mock it, this is the outfit formula that keeps me warm. Which in the winter is the closest thing to happy. How do you keep warm in the winter months?

Ann Taylor Fall 2011 Collection

Ann Taylor Fall 2011: Top Picks Under $100

I know I have devoted quite a few posts to Ann Taylor lately, but I have been completely blown away by the endlessly chic clothes they have been churning out lately. There are so many great pieces in this fall 2011 collection; capes, fur scarves, ankle boots it's hard to pick just a few favorites. While there are a lot of gorgeous things to choose from, some of the prices are a little out of my budget or would have to be an investment piece. If you are like me and are always trying to stay on budget while looking current, here's a tip.  Take a few key pieces from AT Fall 2011 and mix with the current fall pieces in your wardrobe and you will be set. I have taken the liberty of choosing about 9 pieces that I think cover the best of this season for under $100.  Enjoy!

Meet the New Ann Taylor

Last night I was very lucky to be invited to Ann Taylor's celebration of their new concept store opening at the Westchester Mall.  Guests last night enjoyed Hors D'oeuvres, cocktails and a little shopping for a good cause, 5% of sales last night went to support the Junior League of Central WestchesterDJ Mandy Coon kept the music upbeat and fun to set the party mood, while the ladies mixed, mingled and ogled the new fashions and accessories.

Lucy Sykes, fashion expert, was on hand to present and discuss the new Ann Taylor October collection.  You may have seen some of the October Collection in the new print ads with spokes-model Demi Moore. Sykes' was candid and animated about being a busy working mom and trying to look stylish.  She got the crowd excited about the new arrivals, as she quickly donned piece after piece with effortless style and grace.  The new Ann Taylor clothing collection and store is inspired by the chic uptown  woman.  Ann Taylor has taken the unattainable (a Madison Ave. heiress budget) and made it accessible.

What about Ann Taylor's new digs?  The new space is clean and modern, but intimate, evoking the feeling of an upscale boutique. The clothes, shoes and jewelry are artfully displayed, beautiful stacks of sweaters next to stunning visuals, jewelry draped on mirrors and hung from hangers, I love it!  Andrew Taylor Public Relations Director for Ann Taylor  was on hand to oversee the festivities.  Taylor had said that his favorite part of the new store was the beautifully appointed dressing rooms, because of how flattering the lighting and mirrors are.  I would have to agree, the mirrors and the lighting in the dressing rooms are amazingly flattering. I definitely recommend stopping by when you are doing your fall shopping. Here's my photo recap of the evening.

Do you not love it? I honestly want everything, unfortunately (or fortunately for my closet) I have a strict budget to stick to, but there are a few key pieces that are on my wishlist. I want to remind all you Westchester based ladies that Ann Taylor is celebrating their new concept store this Saturday and you are all invited. Check here for more details.

Outfit Chronicles: Mellow Yellow

They call me Mellow Yellow. They call me Mellow Yellow, quite rightly. Well no one has ever called me mellow... or yellow for that matter.  The sunshiny days of summer are here and to glorify this golden hazy day I felt like donning some clothes in...what else, yellow.

Outfit Chronicles: Black Eyelet Skirt - Take Two

Ann Taylor Roll Sleeve T-Shirt, French Connection Black Eyelet Skirt, Naturalizer Spectator Pumps

In April I shared what I wore for Easter Sunday.  The outfit included my new favorite piece for spring, a French Connection black eyelet skirt.  The skirt in my outfit post was styled to be dressier for church and a family dinner, today I took that same skirt and gave it a more casual vibe.

Outfit Chronicles: In My Easter (Sans Bonnet) Finery

Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in their Easter Finery in Easter Parade (1948).
I know that for some getting dressed up is a chore, but for me I relish every opportunity to get dressed up.  I don't have many chances for more formal outfits, I can't be too precious at work (art teacher) less I spill something on myself.  This weekend I knew I would be attending Easter service and having dinner with my parents and planned a special outfit for the day.
