Outfit Chronicles: A Salute to Military Style

 

Here's a little outfit remixing for you.  Nothing that I am wearing in this post is new, most of it is things that I have worn in previous outfit posts.  The blue shirt, the olive green jacket, the black skirt even the red bag (love my Cambridge Satchel) were featured in my older outfit posts from the warmer months.  The key to making these lighter weigh cottons work for chillier November temperatures is layering. The long sleeve oxford is layered over a t-shirt for for insulation, I am wearing some heavy duty Hue tights, long socks pulled over the tights and lace up boots.  All the layers add up to warmth and extend the wearing season of these cotton duds.  Today's outfit post is decidedly military inspired in appearance, of course I kept it cute and feminine by wearing a skirt instead of trousers.  The look was inspired by this month's Blogger's Do it Better Challenge, Military Chic, over on Pretty Shiny Sparkly.  I had fun dressing around the theme of the military look.  I started with the jacket, which is decidedly military in style and I built the outfit up from there.  I hope you enjoy, if you have a sec leave me a note about your thoughts on this look.

 

Blogger's Do It Better: Maxi Skirt In the Wild

There is no denying that maxi length skirts are the "it" item in fashion this year.  The trend shows no signs of stopping either, with designers featuring long skirts as part of their fall collections.  The long hemline phenomenon is no real surprise to me, I have always loved the look of floor grazing skirts.  Even the most petite frame can don a long skirt and look tall and lovely.  Being really petite myself, I have found that the best silhouettes for a small frame are flowy, figure grazing and not overly long.  Ideally the skirt length should hit at the ankle bone, it can be a little longer if heels are worn.  

Bloggers Do It Better: Neon Neutral

After participating in my first Bloggers Do It Better challenge last month I was psyched for the next one.  I waited in eager anticipation for Kristina over at Pretty Shiny Sparkly to post about this month's challenge.  Well last week Kristina proclaimed that "Neon and Neutral" was the theme for this Bloggers Do It Better challenge.  Initially I was stumped, I had the neutral covered in my closet, but the neon not at all.  As I was running errands I started seeing neon every where. At the fabric store I picked up lovely neon pink notions to use as accessories and at target I found an adorable lemon yellow cardi.  Well I had my neon and my neutral, the question was can a girl who likes subdued colors pull off neon? I'll let the pictures be the judge.

Bloggers Do it Better: Challenge- Prep School

In an random act of online surfing from one fashion blog to another I discovered the blog Pretty Shiny Sparkly.  Besides being insanely fun to look at and read along with Kristina's style adventures each week, she has been issuing a style challenge to fellow fashion bloggers.  This week's style challenge is Menswear-Prep School, the one requirement was that every blogger don a tie or bow tie and work from there.  Excited by the idea I decided to channel my inner Annie Hall and rock my own menswear inspired look!
