Shop Local: Mt Kisco

As I mentioned in my last post, I am going to be making an effort to focus my shopping less on online and mass retailers  and instead frequent local independently owned businesses in Westchester,  NY.  I am doing this to help support small business owners and to try bolster the local economy any way I can.  Each week I hope to feature one or two of the indie businesses that I have visited on my blog.

This week I made a stop at the lovely and bustling Mt. Kisco.  The beauty of shopping in Mt. Kisco is three-fold; one the abundance of parking whether on the street or in a lot, two the variety of shops in the area and three the walkability of the main shopping district. Here is look at one of the shops I stopped into in the town of Mt. Kisco.

New York Dolls

1) New York Dolls - A boutique dedicated to ladies clothing that features an eclectic mix of styles that appeal to a wide age range from teens up.  The shop features both casual and formalwear and the two  styles are often in juxtaposition throughout the store.  The prices range from moderate to high end, some  of the designers carried are; Boy Meets Girl, Betsey Johnson, ABS, Nanette Lepore, Tracy Reese and Nicole Miller. New York Dolls also features a fantastic mix of accessories to complete any look, including; jewelry, belts and clutches.  Here are a couple of my favorite finds from my visit.

A beautiful Silk top by Nanette Lepore, originally $215, was marked down to $15! Don't bother checking the shop for this one, I most definitely bought it.

Acadia on Main

2) Acadia on Main - The second stop on my Mt. Kisco shopping tour was Acadia on Main. This shop's focus is on active, outdoor lifestyle apparel and gear.  They carry a selection of apparel, footwear and accessories for both men and women.  The clothing, while geared towards an active and eco friendly lifestyle, is as stylish as it is functional.  Some of the brands featured at the shop are; Billabong, Birkenstock, Keen, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, Prana, Ray Ban and The North Face. I stopped in with one thing in mind, a hat for my brother who will be traveling in Europe next week.  I found exactly what I was looking for in the sharp looking Outdoor Research cap and ended up browsing for another 20 minutes.  The layout is fresh and open and felt as conducive to hanging out as it was to shopping.

I picked up this pocket cap by outdoor research for my brother. The brim folds neatly in half so it can be stashed in a pocket when not on your head.  My brother really liked it and was thrilled with the folding feature.

The ladies wear at Acadia on Main can take you from a day at the beach, to a yoga retreat or even a night out, with their selection of cute and casual dresses.
