Blogger's Do It Better: Maxi Skirt In the Wild

There is no denying that maxi length skirts are the "it" item in fashion this year.  The trend shows no signs of stopping either, with designers featuring long skirts as part of their fall collections.  The long hemline phenomenon is no real surprise to me, I have always loved the look of floor grazing skirts.  Even the most petite frame can don a long skirt and look tall and lovely.  Being really petite myself, I have found that the best silhouettes for a small frame are flowy, figure grazing and not overly long.  Ideally the skirt length should hit at the ankle bone, it can be a little longer if heels are worn.

Today I took the Blogger's-Do-It-Better challenge to style a maxi length skirt.  This is the third BDIB challenge that I have participated in and I have to send a big thanks to Kristina of Pretty Shiny Sparkly for coming up with the challenges.  They have proven to be a big jolt to my creativity.  After reading the post for this month's challenge I ran to my closet to pull out maxi skirts to start working out some outfits.  What did I find?  One maxi skirt, just one, shut up!  I only had one skirt of a trend that I happen to love, how is this possible.  Well in any case, the maxi skirt I chose to wear for this post was a dress in it's past life, see it's DIY transformation here. I paired the skirt with a thrifted tank, a ton of jewelry (bought and borrowed) and some chunky heels for a wild look.

Walking through the gardens, doesn't everyone dress like this to hang in their backyard.
Long skirts make me want to twirl around and curtsey.  Wearing Indigo by Clarks mules.
Estee Lauder I am available for endorsement deals, just saying. Hmm I probably should be holding a puppy.
Red Flare by Orly polish on my nails.  Ring was a craft fair find. Necklace and pin were gifts.
Cute kitty pin! Couldn't resist adding the pin since it tied in with the cat theme.
A gaggle of bangles, not for the faint of heart or those who need to be stealthy.
Old Chaps Croco Belt, from Kohl's.
A swoop of eyeliner completes the look.  Almay liquid eyeliner pen in black.
Thanks so much for stopping by.  I would love to hear what you think of this look, please leave some feedback in the comments section.  Check out how other chic bloggers styled their maxi skirts at Pretty Shiny Sparkly.

Have you bought any maxi-skirts this year?  How do you style them?

Best,

Jennifer

  1. Normally I wouldn't wear anything with animal print, but paired with the black tank and belt it would be something even I would courageously wear. Rrrr! All the added accessories nicely compliment the outfit. Beautiful job with your makeup. The red painted nails completes the look.

  2. Thanks Judy G. I think anyone can courageously rock an animal print, just pair it with a neutral color to balance it. Or try it in small does, on a scarf or handbag.

  8. Hi all thanks so much for stopping by, I'm glad you like the leopard print maxi! When I first tried the outfit on I was like "hmm not sure", mostly because this is the wildest print I own and I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. After I viewed the pictures I realized how awesomely the top and skirt worked together and the outfit made me feel a little more bold and outgoing. Isn't amazing how clothes can do that.

Frannie Pantz, Estee Lauder hasn't called yet but I'll let you know when they do :) .
